THE COACH
Uncover how banks enslave you and make it look like it’s your own fault.
Dr. Katherine Horton spent a decade researching finance, white-collar crime and the tricks of the banking trade used to entrap us into a lifetime of financial misery. She put together this course to enable you to spot common forms of legalized day-time robbery, free yourself from debt, and stop playing a rigged game that you cannot win.
By the end of this course, you will see how debt is not just the result of misfortune, bad decisions or lack of self-control, but the outcome of decades of mass brainwash exploiting human nature, neuroscience and psychological warfare techniques. And you will learn how to fight back.

Preparation
Getting organized is half the battle in personal finance.
Use large envelopes to store the receipts for each month. All receipts from a given month go into one envelope. If you pay online, print off the receipt and put it into the envelope. Don’t forget to include receipts for bills that are paid automatically such as utility bills or cell phone plans. Collect every receipt no matter how small the sum. If no receipt is printed (for example when the paper roll is used up at a gas station or when using a vending machine) make a note of what you paid immediately before you forget.

Use a large ring binder with 12-tab index dividers to store all statements from bank accounts, credit cards and other loans in one place. Label the front index in pencil as you may change the order later. Use a separate tab for each account, card or loan. Reserve the first tab for your budget. Fill subsequent tabs in the order: checking accounts, savings accounts, investment/retirement accounts, credit cards, car loans, personal loans, student loans, mortgage. Order statements chronologically within each tab. If you receive electronic statements, print them off and file them here. Do not leave mail containing bills or card statements unopened. File everything in its place.

Get a calculator and a large notepad if you like to keep track of your expenses by hand. If you prefer a spreadsheet on your computer, use Excel if you have Microsoft Office installed. Alternatively, download OpenOffice for free and use OpenOffice Calc as it works exactly the same way as Excel. It is recommended to use spreadsheets on a laptop or a tablet. If you only have a cell phone, use pen and paper instead as it makes it easier to view many numbers at the same time than on a tiny screen. You will use these materials to create your budget as part of the course and keep track of your expenses every month.

Mental Preparation
Facing your debt can be stressful and terrifying. Do not despair. Simply collect all bank and loan statements as a mechanical exercise, like a robot. Don’t read individual statements while preparing the ring binder. Focus on getting the paperwork organized.
List all of your monthly income from salary, pension, social security, alimony, tips, side-hustles etc. List any savings or investments separately. Finally, pencil the outstanding debt and interest rate for each credit card or loan on the front index page. You are now ready to start the course.
See you soon.
